2002 honda civic ex door keys?

lost my keys now i must use a locksmith...does my car keys require a microchip? (transponder) or is it a regular key..trying to prevent getting ripped off.

  1. you will need to have the keys made by a honda dealer. your car has the immobilizer system on it and it will not start unless the new keys are programmed to the computer in the car. So yes, the key for the car does have a ‘chip’ in it.

    a honda dealer can make the new keys for you from the vehicle identification number. you will need to show them a registration or other proof that you own the vehicle before they will make the key. a new key can be used to open the doors without programming but it will not start the car unless it is programmed. The car will probably have to be towed to a honda dealer to have the key programmed.

  2. honda guy is right on you have bring the vin a proof of owenr ship to a honda dealer and they can make keys for you
