I want to buy a used car from England and register in the US. What would be involved, shipping, registering?

The car is a 1999 Honda Civic Type-R. Say its about 3,000 pounds (England dollars) so I figure roughly $6,000 US dollars. How much may shipping cost? Does US customs allow the vehicle to be shipped? Is there tax on it? What will registration be like? Thank you!

    If it does not meet all safety and emissions standards, it cannot be registered or driven in the U.S., so you better research this thoroughly.
