How come when I floor the gas pedal my car won’t accelerate like it used to?

June 29th, 2009 Rock Posted in Maintenance Repairs 4 Comments »

I have a 98 Honda Civic. I used to be able to floor the gas and my car would launch away, but I noticed today that won't happen anymore. I used to feel pressure from the gas pedal that would resist to hard of an acceleration, but the gas seems softer somehow. And when I floor it, it's as if I were just accelerating normally. I swear, the tachometer hardly increases at all.

This might be relevant: a couple weeks ago, my car died on me because the distributor was bad, so I got a new one. I think it drove fine after that. A couple days ago, I got an oil change and (I think they called it) a transmission flush. I didn't notice any difference after that, but I was also babying my car and wasn't pushing it performance-wise, so it could have been affected right away.

I want to place blame on the mechanic, but again, I didn't notice anything right away and I'd like to know just what the heck would cause this problem.
I guess I should have mentioned before that I drive an automatic. And I've never frequently driven aggressively (only if I was really pissed about something, yeah I'm an emotional driver). But anyways, I always thought about gas mileage and wear-and-tear when driving, so I rarely pushed my car excessively.

To answer some questions, it has about 88,000 miles on it and I don't remember ever doing the transmission flush before. Thinking of taking it to the shop this weekend to maybe figure this out.

I've noticed now that it accelerates fine till I get to third gear, and I can now get it to accelerate quickly up to fourth gear only by putting tons of pressure on the pedal. I wasn't able to do that before. Maybe it's healing itself!? :P

Very LOW mpg on 2007 honda civic lx?

June 13th, 2009 Rock Posted in Maintenance Repairs 7 Comments »

Hi everyone, this is my first time asking something on yahoo answers and i hope i can get help about this. Right when winter started i have been getting about 200 miles on full tank, that would be around 17mpg. In summer i used to get around 30mpg. I have changed the air filter and pressurized the tires. I went to get my oil change in the local honda dealership and they told me i have no leaks of fuel or any other problems. I got the car brand new in 07. So i need to know what else could cause this problem. Thanks in advance.

ABS SRS lights sometimes come on in my 2001 Honda Civic EX (radio cuts out too)?

June 1st, 2009 Rock Posted in Maintenance Repairs 1 Comment »

Hello All, I bought a used car from someone about 3 months ago, the car was in great condition, and the carfax was clean for no accidents. Shortly after buying the car one day on the highway, my ABS SRS lights came on the radio cut out, as soon I stepped on the break, they went off. It happened twice on the same day after that. Just today it happened a couple of times again. Im really scared that my car is just going to shut off one day on the highway or something scary like that! My brother mentioned something about the wiring under the seats (whoever had it before me put in custom leather seats). But I'm not exactly sure what it could be! I had the alternator battery tested and everything is perfect, also when I get my oil changes @ Honda, they said everything like brakes fluid are all perfect. Does someone have some type of idea what this could be? Honda charges 115$ an hour just to LOOK at a car, I can't imagine what they would charge to look at it, let alone fix it!

Thanks for all your help in advance!!
